Where can you have a civil wedding in the City of Zug?

The City of Zug offers four rooms for civil ceremonies:

• the function room of the Park Tower on the 24th floor
• the historic Town Hall in the old town of Zug
• the Burg Zug museum
• a plain meeting room in the Stadthaus at Gubelstrasse 22

The city's marriage brochure («Broschüre Eheschliessung», in German) shows photos of the rooms and the conditions for each. When you book, ask whether and where photos may be taken during the ceremony, so your photographer knows in advance.

How does a civil wedding in Zug work?

1. Preparation: The marriage preparation procedure takes place at the civil registry office where the bride or the groom lives. The City of Zug takes registrations through a form and then advises you on the process and the documents you need.
2. Date: You can book the ceremony one year before your chosen date at the earliest. The city asks you to get in touch by phone for this.
3. Photos: Once your date and venue are set, you have everything an inquiry needs.

Since 1 July 2022, new registered partnerships can no longer be entered in Switzerland. Couples who already have one can convert it into a marriage, with a ceremony and two witnesses if they wish.

What fees apply to a civil wedding in Zug?

The City of Zug does not list fees on its wedding page. The civil registry office for the Zug district (Zivilstandsamt Kreis Zug) gives you the current amounts for the ceremony and the room.
