Wedding photographer Basel: where does the civil ceremony take place?

The canton of Basel-Stadt names the civil registry office at Rittergasse 11 as the ceremony venue. The old building stands in a garden near the Minster, high above the Rhine, and ceremonies take place in the hall on the ground floor.

How do the couple, guests and photographer get to Rittergasse?

Motor vehicles may not drive up to drop off passengers, and that includes limousines and vintage cars. Exceptions apply to small children and to frail or mobility-impaired people. You can order a short-term permit for horse-drawn carriages, party coaches or deliveries for the reception, and taxis on booked trips may drive in without a permit. By public transport, the "Kunstmuseum" tram stop on line 2 is about 200 metres away.

Which comes first, the registry date or your Basel wedding photographer?

The registry date. You book the date and venue online, no earlier than twelve months and no later than two months before your chosen day. The reservation also counts as your application for the marriage preparation procedure, so you upload documents such as a copy of your passport or ID card. If neither of you lives in the canton of Basel-Stadt, or if you need a short-notice date, you contact the civil registry office by email instead.

Date and venue stay provisional until the office confirms them. Once they are confirmed, you know the day and time, and that is exactly what a photographer needs to give you a firm answer.
