Style and approach

Florian Baumann lives in Wiesendangen and photographs weddings from his base in the Winterthur region. He sees his work as documentation: quiet glances, small gestures and the laughter of the guests matter more to him than a perfectly staged schedule. If the couple wishes, he stays from early morning until late in the evening.

Before anything is booked, the couple and the photographer get to know each other in a personal meeting or a video call, because for him the chemistry has to be right. A few weeks before the wedding, both sides go through the day's schedule once more.

He deliberately photographs getting ready at home, even in a small flat: to him, these pictures later show how the couple lived at that point in their lives. When the timetable allows, he suggests a short second couple session after dinner, in the soft light before sunset.
